Dawn Roma French (born 11 October 1957) is a six-time BAFTA Award-nominated English comedian and actress. She is best known for staring in her comedy sketch show French and Saunders along with her comedy partner Jennifer Saunders, and for playing the lead role of Geraldine Granger in The Vicar of Dibley.

Born in Holyhead, Wales into an RAF family. French went on to attend the Central School of Speech and Drama in London where she met Jennifer Saunders. Despite finding Saunders snooty and aloof at first, the pair went on to share a flat and began performing comedy together.

French's TV career started with The Comic Strip Presents in 1982. In 1987 she and Jennifer Saunders debuted in their own TV show, French and Saunders, a mixture of sketch comedy. film and music parodies.

Away from the double-act, French has starred in Murder Most Horrid a dark comedy series where she plays a variety of murderous characters, The Vicar of Dibley in which she plays the female vicar in an English parish. She also played the woman who falls in love with an Alien in Ted and Alice and joined paired up with Catherine Tate in Wild West.

In October 2005 French played Professor Joy Klump, in Mastering the Universe for Radio 4. Klump puts people in touch with their inner spoilsport by teaching them to sulk like a pro.

French recently presented Dawn French's Boys Who Do Comedy in which she spoke to some of her most admired comedy heroes. A second series Dawn French's More Boys Who Do Comedy aired in 2007.

French's autobiography is thought to be called Dear Fatty and will be available in October from Random House publishing.
