Daytime television is getting a shot in the arm from the microphone of Vivienne Vyle. She is the ringmaster in the circus of her daytime confessional show, marshalling her guests as they play out their outrageous lives on TV. But the ambitious host has a personal life of her own to deal with.

This new black comedy is written by Jennifer Saunders and Dr Tanya Byron, who met on the set of the French and Saunders 2005 Christmas Special, and also features Miranda Richardson as Vyle's chain-smoking producer. Vyle's is a show which tackles the issues sensationally portrayed by likes of Jerry Springer, Trisha and Jeremy Kyle.

Producer Jo Sargent describes Vyle: "She's quite a vulnerable person really. Behind her public, 'tell it like it is' façade, is an insecure, easily hurt individual. She's beginning to question how much she wants the success. But then her ratings soar, and her ego begins to expand in line with her audience figures."

The Life and Times of Vivienne Vyle, Thursday 4 October 9pm, BBC Two (not BBC 2W)

It was brilliant.
The frightened psychologist is a new comedy classic; cowed by his snobbery. The tee shirt of "I Want a Vagina But I Can't Give up Crack" should sell a million.
I worked in an electrical store for about six months, several years ago. One of our games for getting through the awful first hour of the day was making up the headlines for the confessional show (I can't remember whose it was-it could even have been the racist permatan bloke). My best ever was "Son-in-law! Stop Shagging Grandma!".

Lucky we've got BBC. Belgian humor is just not this edgy.
My son laughed his head off with the great fall. Yes, that was a little gimmicky.
And Miranda Richardson... ha! Good new show. A jolly good reason to stay up that little longer on thursdays... (Belgian time!)

Unfortunately missed the first 2 programmes. I think it is so very clever. Its now on my Sky Plus. As you can tell I am crap at describing just how brilliant it is. Luckily I'm not writing the scripts!

For years my friends have told me about Ab Fab & French & Saunders. This week is the first time I've seen either of those shows & I'm totally blown away. I can't get enough! What I find most incredible is French & Saunders working together for 20 years and the crew on Ab Fab working together for so many years. How lucky you all are to have these creative partnerships! Thank you so much for such outrageously fabulous work!
